Violence
Violence is defined as behavior that involves physical force that intends to hurt damage or kill someone or something.

Violence is usually used against humans but in To Kill a Mockingbird it is not only used against humans but also against animals. One example was when Atticus shot a once friendly dog that had now gone rabid. Although there was no much anyone could do about it, it is still a case of violence. There could be many possibilities besides shooting it e.g. they could have put in in a center for rabid animals and the animals could still live a nice life. Another case of violence was when Tom Robinson was convicted; he was shot 17 times from the guards. When asked why, the guards answer because they thought Tom Robinson was trying to escape and was nearly over fence. But this is impossible for Tom Robinson who was dysfunctional and one arm was shorter than the other by 12 inches. This only show the violence used against black American people and the hate white people have for them. If the situation was reversed and a white man was convicted, he wouldn’t have been shot 17 times. In fact likely the white man wouldn’t even be convicted because the race of the jury is the same as the white man. This shows the unfairness of the situation back then when black man were not treated in the same way as white man. And the possibility that a white man can abuse a black man and still get away with it.

Another case of violence is when Bob Ewell, the father of the girl that was said to be a victim of rape but evidence shows that it was Bob who raped his own daughter, got angry over Atticus because he was defending a “nigger” even though he was white and should defend his own race. Bob used dirty plots against Atticus. When Bob was talking to Atticus, Bob spat directly into Atticus’ face. But this wasn’t the end of his plan; he was also trying to kill his two kids; Scott and Jem. The children did not get hurt in any particular manner but still the idea of avenging someone with violence is wrong and unjust. Only someone who hates with that much detest can do something as evil as what Bob did.
