The themes and issues in a text are like the building blocks of a novel or play. Without them, it would cease to have any meaning or depth, and even the plot will fall apart.  'To Kill a Mockingbird' and 'Death of a Salesman' are very different texts, and have their own themes and issues. However, some are present in both novels.
