Today we have decided to interview an American salesman as he talks about some of his biggest secrets and his dreams and ambitions.
Q: Hi Willy Loman, we are very lucky to have you join us today. Can you start us off by telling some interesting things about you? W: Hi, well as you know already, I’m a salesman. But I’m not just an ordinary salesman; I’m a very successful salesman. Go to Filene’s, go to Hub, go to Slattery’s, Boston. Call out my name and see what happens. Big Shot Q: Wow, that’s ….amazing. You are a father of two sons; Happy and Biff. What are they like? Are they also salesman? W: I’ll be honest with you, even though this is quite embarrassing, my two sons aren’t nearly as successful as I am. But I have faith in them, they'll come through. Let’s take Biff as an example, he is an extraordinary son and was one of the top students in the class back then. All his friends worshipped him but when he grew up, he just didn’t know what he wanted to do with his life. He had so many great opportunities but he didn’t like any of it. Maybe it was due to the fact that the choices came too easily for him, because right now he is 34 years old and he still can’t earn more than 50pence a week! |   |
Q: Well, that is quite terrible news. Can I offer…
W: But… But there is good news. Last week, he went to one of his old friends to ask for a job and they had dinner so it went very well. I am positive that he will get that job.
Q: I’m sure, Biff will get that job. So when Biff gets that job, I’m guessing you’ll retire. What will you do with all the spare time?
W: I do like to do some planting. I like to grow different plants in the front of my house and right now I don’t have enough time to do that. I also would be able to chat with my old friends that I haven’t seen for ages. I’ve been so busy these days that I can’t go and meet any of my old friends anymore.
Q: Growing plants and meeting friends is definitely a good way to spend spare time. We have been told that you have some ambitions that you feel you yet to have achieved. What are these ambitions?
W: My biggest ambition is to make it big in the commercial industry, be known worldwide. Right now, I’m already quite known but I would like to be known in the whole country. Imagine then, all the money I would get. I wouldn’t need to travel so much and my sons would not need to work either. It will be a perfect life.
Q: Yes, yes. That sounds amazing. And last question. You earn the money in the household, what about your wife? What does she do?
W: My wife, Linda, does all the housework. She makes the dinner and all the job a woman should do. She is an amazing woman although she sometimes does get on my nerves. For example once she kept on interrupting me when I was giving advice to my sons. But most times she is quite ok to live with and I can cope with her.
